Savannah woodland and eucalyptus open-forest and woodland, preferring mostly grassy areas and suburban gardens.

Found in a wide variety of habitat, preferring open country in tropical and dry inland areas. Adults are migratory, occasionally reach ACT, Vic and Tas. Possibly very nomadic in arid zone where native food only available after rain.
